Get Involved

Any full-time or part-time student enrolled in the clinical or psychological science graduate psychology program at Ryerson University is encouraged to apply to become a member of the PGSA Executive Committee. The PGSA Executive Committee typically consists of seven members. The following positions are available:

President: The President is responsible for overseeing the activities of the PGSA. In addition, he/she has signing authority and principle responsibility for the management of funds. The President must attend or appoint a committee member to attend Ryerson University’s All-Executive meetings. The President also serves as the liaison between the Ryerson Student Union and the PGSA. Finally, the President is required to orient and train the incoming President at the end of his/her term.

Vice-President: The Vice-President assists the President and undertakes the aforementioned responsibilities in the President’s absence. The Vice-President also acts as one of the PGSA’s signing officers. In addition, the Vice-President takes a leadership role in the organization and implementation of social, academic, and fundraising events hosted by the PGSA.

Secretary/Treasurer: The Secretary/Treasurer acts as one of the PGSA’s signing officers. As well, the Secretary/Treasurer is responsible for scheduling PGSA Executive Committee meetings and keeping and distributing meeting minutes. He/she also reserves any event spaces/room bookings needed for PGSA activities.

Clinical Psychology Student Representative: The Clinical Psychology Student Representative primarily acts as a liaison between the clinical psychology graduate students and the PGSA. He/she solicits feedback and recommendations from the clinical psychology students. The Clinical Psychology Student Representative also participates in the organization and implementation of social, academic, and fundraising events hosted by the PGSA.

Psychological Science Student Representative: The Psychological Science Student Representative primarily acts as a liaison between the psychological science psychology graduate students and the PGSA. He/she solicits feedback and recommendations from the psychological science psychology students. The Psychological Science Student Representative also participates in the organization and implementation of social, academic, and fundraising events hosted by the PGSA.

MA Student Representative: The MA Student Representative primarily acts as a liaison between the MA psychology graduate students and the PGSA. He/she solicits feedback and recommendations from the MA psychology students. The MA Student Representative also participates in the organization and implementation of social, academic, and fundraising events hosted by the PGSA.

PhD Student Representative: The PhD Student Representative primarily acts as a liaison between the PhD psychology graduate students and the PGSA. He/she solicits feedback and recommendations from the PhD psychology students. The PhD Student Representative also participates in the organization and implementation of social, academic, and fundraising events hosted by the PGSA.

How to join the PGSA Executive Committee:

Serving on the PGSA Executive Committee is a great way to get involved in the psychology graduate programs and develop your CV. Members of the Executive Committee are elected by fellow students in the psychology graduate programs. Elections are held annually in early December. If you are interested in applying for a position on the PGSA Executive Committee, please send the following documents to pgsa@psych.ryerson.ca.
